The main editorial in today's Spec by Robert Howard, 'Is Hamilton a hard place to do business?' prompted me to write a letter to him:
Mr. Howard;
I read with great interest your editorial.
Mostly because my list of 'issue-centric' town halls for 2012 contains 'Is Hamilton Really Open for Business?'
My notes include having a panel (consisting of the business community, City Hall staff, a councillor or two), some video commentary from those who have had negative experiences similar to those you've articulated, as well as a riff on what will be a regular format througout our efforts, 'Speakers' Corner, Squared', which is less an opportunity to ask questions of councillors and the like and more a chance to voice an opinion.
Naturally, this is one of the evenings I'd tagged at being best hosted at The Spec auditorium.
As I've long blogged that Hamilton seems to have an entrenched 'culture of obstructionism', it's definitely, positively time that we had better opportunities for dialogue, discourse and debate. That's why Town Halls Hamilton is endeavouring to do what it's doing.
Regards,
Adrian/
As Town Halls Hamilton's ultimate goal is to effect positive, restorative change in the city, it's heartening to see signs that expanded dialogue is desired on many fronts.
